“…there is a future for sex technology and sex robots. The story behind it is humans are primarily two things: humans are a sexual species and humans are a tool-using species. So, there will be some form of tool being used in the future to enhance our sex lives, to make our sex lives more pleasurable.”
For the expert interviews, we sat down with Johannes Grenzfurthner, expert for the collaboration and connection between sexuality and tech and head of the Arse Elektronika festivals in San Francisco, an annual academic and creative conference series about sexuality and technology.
In the interview, he discussed the current status of sex technology in our world, as well as its potential for the future. He debated why sex robots have not become main stream yet and what sex robots need to improve to become main stream in the future. He asks the question how it can be improved and who will buy such robots?
“Most of the time I see interesting sex robots or sex tools being made in the field of ‘do it yourself’. Because people have specific needs and interests, for example trans people, they have different bodies and different body shapes, that are not catered for in a traditional patriarchal hetero-norm mainstream market. So, the only way for people like that to get a sex robot or a sex tool that helps them with their specific need is to make it themselves. So, do it yourself, screw it yourself, that’s my approach.”
Discussing topics like tradition in sex lives and self-satisfaction, Grenzfurthner highlights how there is an infinite number of possibilities in technology and sexual behaviour of humans. And diversity comes from humans and their needs themselves, developing new ideas and ways to satisfy their desires.
Thank you, Johannes Grenzfurthner, for taking part in the interview and sharing your opinions and views on tradition in sex technology and the importance of discussing the topic. Find more information about Johannes Grenzfurthner here: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Grenzfurthner
