What is wrong with using the services of a sx robot? If someone is single and not able to find a partner for a long time, is it acceptable by society for them to acquire a sx robot? Whether as a companion or more intimate purposes, should society still judge them? And if they acquire such a robot, what can they do with it? Whatever they imagine and desire? Or are there limits?
This is one of the key debates around sx robots and their development for the future. If we assume that sx robots are just machines and their owners are the ones responsible for how they are used, then what makes us judge how the robots look or what they are finally used for? Rarely do we check what our next door neighbour does with their tech appliances, so why should the robot be any different. At the same time if we assume that our daily life and any action we do has consequences and teaches us what is acceptable and not in society, then this becomes a question of moral responsibility. If someone mistreats their sx robots simply because they can, what tells us that they will not do so in real life as well one day? Are we as humans all capable of differentiating between what we can do with a robot and what we can do with other humans?
It is a moral dilemma that stretches through many levels of the development of sx robots and is a key discussion in if sx robots should be banned. But is it sx robots that need to be stopped or do we need to teach our society how to be morally responsible for their actions in all aspects of one’s life?
